Last Time, at Gaming Hell Headquarters...

20th May, 2025
HAPPY 17TH BIRTHDAY, GAMING HELL!
It's been so quiet around here, I don't even think I'm still on the ENEMY OF THE STATE blacklist. Bloody hell. Gaming Hell continues to be on quieter, limited operations for a while longer. Still, we didn't just sit on our laurels, we got a few things done- we had a modern game in the form of Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club, a long-overdue update for Fighting Vipers, the big Sonic the Comic's Sega Superstars feature and even a new guide for Last Bronx. Sadly, I wasn't able to do Data East Day this year, but I have a good excuse- the game I was planning to cover, High Seas Havoc, proved so difficult I couldn't complete it in time. Oops. Stiil, I'm continuing to stream on Twitch so, as ever, to all our readers and viewers old and new, you have our deepest thanks.

Anyway, we decided to return to that tower once more, this time looking at The Quest of Ki. I think it says a lot that this game did not break my spirit, but Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels did. It's fun, for those seeking a challenge, and hopefully I've articulated why. This also looks at the Vs. System version which has even more stages! But sadly not the currently-lost feature phone version that has another 100 stages that I desperately want to play.

Finally, a Skeb commission from umn_tmg_sab, The Streamer Whose Name was Stolen being very small:

Gaming Hell may be resting a little for now, but we will return...

A little interim update, but it's something I've been meaning to do for a while because one unlockable in this was really bothering me- it's a guide to unlocking all the secrets in the Saturn port of Last Bronx, including all the different requirements for the Japanese, US and European versions! These aren't well-documented on the rest of the internet so, well, better get on that.

Some mascot art too! First is a Skeb by CAFFEIN, creator of Haku Yowane, who drew Haku hanging out with Sarah for us:

And some art of The Streamer Whose Name was Stolen by numenoko:

A new article every two months... Maybe this'll become the standard for a while, we'll see. For now though, this is a big one- Sonic the Comic's Sega Superstars, a look at all the non-Sonic-related comic strips from Fleetway's Sonic the Comic. All your favourites are here- Streets of Rage, Kid Chameleon, Mutant League and of course, Marko's Magic Football! We even get to look at the comics in Max Overload just for completeness. This took a long time to write, please take your time enjoying it.

Ooh, some mascot funart! This Sarah is by Bravehaart, What a lovely surprise:

Gaming Hell is still on limited operations mode but that's not to say I'm not gonna peek my head from under the blanket and throw you an article here and there. Don't get too excited though, this is another rework of a very, very old article- 15 years old, in fact- with Fighting Vipers Rewritten from scratch! All new info! New screenshots! Corrections of decade-old mistakes! And more!! Please enjoy this look at a personal favourite of mine from the pantheon of Sega fighting games. It's way better than it was before, promise!

Some older pages also got updates:
* Mega Drive Collections - Updated this with info on the Sega delistings of December 2024, and also noticed I had completely forgotten to include Ecco Jr. in the 2017 collection table and I never noticed because it was Ecco Jr., whoops!!
* Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars - Updated the section on the arcade version as the Password option has finally been figured out- you can use it to access the four extra characters unlockable in the Wii version of Cross Generation of Heroes!

... Ah. Hello there, everyone. It's been a while, huh? Sorry about that. The summer months have been long, busy and gruelling for me and I just needed a nice long rest from this little hovel. Well, a rest that's going to continue I'm afraid, I just want a little longer to get some stuff ready to go for the future, so I appreciate your patience. As a little bonus for now though, I don't know about you, but I really wanted some more Famicom Detective Club games, and hey, we got one in the form of Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club. Is the Utsugi Detective Agency on the ball for this one, or have they bungled the case? Read on and find out.

Some older pages also got updates:
* Space Invaders 90 - Updated the section on the Switch version as it was finally released separately.
* Urban Champion - Added a mention of the Switch Online version and cameos in Tetris DS and NES Remix.
* Sega Game Library - A few fixes and corrections, including getting the number of Pyramid Magic stages right. Oops.
* City Connection - Made a major correction on the developer of the game- although listed on the Axes Art Amuse / Hect website, that company didn't exist until well after the game was released. Spurred into action from a message by Angel_Arle (thank you!), I cleared up a few facts about the developer- it was most likely Jaleco internal, as staff from Jaleco would later form Hect and it seems to be that they just listed their old Jaleco works on their website too, without specifying they weren't Hect back then. This whole page needs a big clean-up in the future but I wanted this squared away for now.

Time to catch up with mascot art! The first of Year 17 comes courtesy of a commission by TheJiggeh, The Streamer Whose Name was Stolen is on their Neo Geo Pocket Color:

Next, some mid-stream art by Decon Theed, with The Streamer Whose Name was Stolen enjoying Video's James on their PookaStation 1:

Finally, a Skeb commission from Fancy Surprise!, The Streamer Whose Name was Stolen with an alternate look and a cute teddy bear:
